SculptraŽ - non-surgical facelift
SculptraŽ is a synthetic injectable material known as "poly-L-lactic acid", which is biodegradable and non-toxic. It works by helping the skin to produce extra collagen of its own, a process referred to as "neocollagenesis". The gradual improvement results in facial contouring and volumetric enhancement or a Non-Surgical Facelift.
How does SculptraŽ work?
SculptraŽ is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. SculptraŽ provides a gradual increase in skin thickness.Visible results appear within the first few treatment sessions. SculptraŽ will not correct the underlying cause of the facial fat loss, but will help improve the appearance by increasing skin thickness in the treated area.
Is this the right treatment for me?
After the consultation we will be able to assess which is the best treatment for you. You will be advised according to the area for treatment, your age, your medical situation and your expectations. Some treatments are perfect for some areas and not others, fortunately we have a wide range of treatments available so we have something to suit everyone.
Are skin tests required before treatment with SculptraŽ?
No, skin testing is not required prior to use.
Are the results from SculptraŽ immediate?
No. SculptraŽ takes time to work, with the results becoming noticeable after about six weeks. It may appear to have an effect immediately after your first treatment visit, but this is because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. When the swelling goes down after a few days and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before treatment.
How many treatments are required?
Each patient should be evaluated individually. More than one treatment session may be required. People with severe facial fat loss may require 2 to 4 treatment sessions.
How long do treatment effects last?
Treatment effects will differ for each person. In a clinical study, the treatment results lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session, in most people. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.
How quickly can I return to my daily activities?
Most patients feel comfortable going back to their normal activities following treatment.
What are the possible side effects of treatment with SculptraŽ?
The most common side effects are tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, swelling or bleeding at the injection site. These side effects generally disappear in 2-6 days. One possible delayed side effect with SculptraŽ can be small bumps under the skin in the treated area within 6 to 12 months of the first treatment. These may not be visible, and you may only notice them when you press in the treated skin. The bumps sometimes disappear of their own accord. Visible bumps, sometimes associated with redness or colour change to the treated area, have also been reported. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin, there is risk of infection.
Is it painful?
As with all injections, some discomfort is inevitable, and you may feel a brief burning sensation at the injection site. An ice pack applied after the treatment can help to relieve this. If necessary, SculptraŽ can be diluted with with local anaesthetic which drastically reduces the discomfort. We apply numbing gel/cream prior to the treatment which significantly helps with the discomfort.
